SHERMAN, Texas —<\/strong> Michael Cain, 35, was arrested on a warrant<\/a> for Criminally Negligent Homicide.\u00a0 An investigation, reported that Cain was consuming alcohol with his 17 year old daughter, Patience Cain, before her death. A medical examination showed that Patience died as a result of acute ethanol toxicity<\/a>, more commonly known as alcohol poisoning<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On January 10, 2025, both the Sherman Police Department and the Sherman Fire Department were dispatched to the 800-block North Sam Rayburn Freeway after getting a report of a 17-year-old female who was not breathing.\u00a0\u00a0Patience Cain, died after being taken to a hospital.\u00a0\u00a0An arrest warrant was obtained for Michael Cain for Criminally Negligent Homicide. Cain is currently in the Grayson County Jail on a $100,000 bond.\u00a0\u00a0EMS transported Patience to a local hospital, where she later died from alcohol poisoning.<\/p>\n

Hughes says although Texas law permits alcohol consumption in the presence of their adult parent or guardian, Patience\u2019s cause of death was due to an excess of drinking. Sherman police are not releasing her blood alcohol level, Sherman Medical Center\u2019s Trauma Program Manager and Stroke Coordinator Courtney Osbourn says the kind of effect alcohol poisoning has on the body is based on many factors.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt depends on a patient\u2019s size, their weight, their tolerance, if they\u2019ve had food that day,\u201d said Osbourn. \u201cFor most women, they look at three drinks in a two hour period and for men it\u2019s five in a two hour period.\u201d<\/p>\n

The condition is usually treated with IV fluids and oxygen, at other times, survival is based on how fast patients can get to the emergency room.<\/p>\n

Patience\u2019s mother, Kymberlie Martin, said in a post on GoFundMe<\/a> her daughter was \u201ca source of love, joy, and hope\u201d to her sister, friends, and anyone around. Patience cared for animals of all kinds and had dreams of working in that capacity. Martin also mentioned Patience was facing \u201cchallenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always encourage our community to please exercise caution,\u201d said Hughes. \u201cTragically, in this case, it cost the life of a young 17 year old lady and we don\u2019t want that to happen again.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Michael Cain faces up to two years in prison if convicted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
