Austin Recovery Appoints New Executive Director

Sept. 20, 2016 – Austin Recovery (AR), the city’s longest serving provider of addiction recovery services, today appointed one of its own to its top leadership post.  Laura Sovine, LMSW-AP, will take the helm of the non-profit agency as executive director effective.

As AR’s executive director, Sovine will continue to oversee the day-to-day functioning at the Hicks Family Ranch inpatient treatment center and South Congress outpatient facilities and be responsible for fund raising development programs.  Sovine came to AR from Travis County Health and Human Services and Veterans Services, where she was social services program administrator. There she provided clinical oversight and programming support to the family support services division. She was responsible for policy and procedure development, interpretation and revision and supervising a team of social workers, among other responsibilities.

She has been an adjunct faculty member of the UT-Austin School of Social Work and worked at Communities In Schools of Central Texas as a senior program coordinator.  Sovine is a past executive director of the Crime Prevention Institute, Inc., of Austin, a prisoner re-entry focused non-profit organization, during which her CPI won a Ring of Honor award from the Mental Health Association of Texas and a Non-Profit Excellence Award from Greenlights for Nonprofit Success.  She received her BA in Psychology and Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin.

Based in Central Texas, Austin Recovery has offered short- and long-term residential programs, as well as other services to support addiction recovery, since the organization was founded in 1967.
